Ahmad Dafit: Study of Comparative Religion Produces Students with Flexible Thinking
Berita Baru, Yogyakarta – In a webinar organized by the Student Association of the Study of Comparative Religion (HMPS SAA) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Ahmad Dafit, an alumnus who currently serves as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Beritabaru.co, emphasized that the Study of Comparative Religion department not only produces potential employees but also students with flexible thinking skills.
During the event titled “Interactive Dialogue with Alumni” on Saturday (June 11, 2023), Ahmad Dafit explained that the Study of Comparative Religion is universal, allowing graduates from this department to pursue careers in various fields.
“Different from specialized fields such as medicine, engineering, and others. Those who study in those fields can only use their degrees in the specific areas of their studies,” said Dafit, who is also a student at Anhui University, China.
In this context, Dafit stressed that studying Comparative Religion teaches students to think flexibly. The department covers various subjects such as philosophy, history, and interfaith communication.
In his address, Dafit delivered an inspirational message, stating that if a carpenter can become a president, then students of Comparative Religion also have great potential.
“For example, there will be different policies made by officials who have studied Comparative Religion compared to those who haven’t. From these small things, we can practice them on a larger scale,” he said.
Dafit mentioned that Indonesia has religious and belief diversity, and students of Comparative Religion have the responsibility to study and understand this diversity.
Dafit exemplified that an official who has studied Comparative Religion would make different policies compared to an official who has not studied it. The ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds, especially those with different religions or beliefs, will provide advantages in various fields, including entrepreneurship.
Meanwhile, Muamalah, the Coordinator of the Public Relations Division of HMPS SAA at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, explained that the “Interactive Dialogue with Alumni” event was held to get to know the alumni of Comparative Religion Studies more closely and provide motivation to students in their learning process.
“Through this dialogue, we hope that students can gain a better understanding of careers and prospects after graduation,” he said.
Thus, the Study of Comparative Religion department at UIN Sunan Kalijaga not only provides knowledge about religion and belief but also trains students to think flexibly, communicate with various parties, and embrace diversity in their lives and future careers.
